Preparation Time:
- 35 min
Ingredients:
- 250g of all-purpose flour
- 125g of unsalted butter (cold, diced)
- 75g of granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 100ml of ice water
- 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 150g of fresh cranberries
- 50g of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
Kitchen Tools Needed:
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling pin
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Knife
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons
- Oven
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water gradually until the dough just comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix sliced apples, cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch until well coated.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large circle about ¼ inch thick. Transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spoon the fruit mixture onto the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating as you go to create a rustic look.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg to give a golden color when baked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
