Cranberry Apple Crostata

Preparation Time:

  • 35 min

Ingredients:

  • 250g of all-purpose flour
  • 125g of unsalted butter (cold, diced)
  • 75g of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 100ml of ice water
  • 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 150g of fresh cranberries
  • 50g of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Oven

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the ice water gradually until the dough just comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for 15 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix sliced apples, cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch until well coated.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large circle about ¼ inch thick. Transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Spoon the fruit mixture onto the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating as you go to create a rustic look.
  • Brush the edges with the beaten egg to give a golden color when baked.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
