Expert Homemade Apple Pie

Preparation Time:

  • 45 min

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons of ice water
  • 4 medium-sized apples (peeled and sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of flour

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Pie dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Oven
  • Knife
  • Peeler

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Split the dough in half and shape each into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  • Roll out one disc on a floured surface into a circle and fit it into a pie dish, trimming the edges.
  • In another mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and flour until evenly combined.
  • Pour the apple filling into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
  • Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the apple filling. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Let the pie cool before serving.
